Cambodian FM Asks Cyprus Counterpart to Cooperate in Revealing the Truth

Phnom Penh: Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhon has sent a letter to the Foreign Minister of Cyprus, Nikos Cristo Dulides on Wednesday asking to cooperate in revealing the truth. This was following the report from a UK-based newspaper “The Guardian” saying that Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Sen is one of the non-European who have received Cypriot passports.

The introduction of the official letter says, “I have the honor to bring to Your Excellency's attention to the Guardian's report, published on Sunday, 3 October 2021, with a false claim that ... Cambodian leader Hun Sen was discovered to have been among the thousands of non-Europeans who received Cyprus passports. "I am extremely disturbed by this grossly false reporting"

“I would like to inform Your Excellency that Samdech Techo Prime Minister Hun Sen is a Cambodian hero who, since an early age of 18, resolved to sacrifice his flesh and blood to lead the struggle to defeat imperialism and the genocidal Khmer Rouge regime. He also devoted his life to fighting for the cause of genuine national unification and for building and developing the nation from scratch after the day of national liberation in 1979.

Foreign Minister Sokhonn says Prime Minister Hun Sen has always linked his life with the life of the people in all circumstances. He has added, “Therefore, there is absolutely no doubt about the patriotic spirit of Samdech Techo Prime Minister Hun Sen, is honoured, dignified and proud to be a Khmer national and national leader. Thus, the thought of applying for citizenship or a passport from any foreign country, would have never crossed his mind.”

The Cambodian Foreign Minister has asked Dulides for cooperation in finding out the truth about the “malicious accusation” in order to give justice, honor and dignity to the Prime Minister.
